No me hubieras dejado esa noche…

Lealtad vs. Fidelidad: Juego de palabras

Diego Rivera: Te dije cómo era cuando te casaste conmigo!

Frida Kahlo: Y prometiste ser leal!

The History Channel: La Isla Apocalíptica… y es chilena

Anoche The History Channel presentó el programa “La Isla Apocalíptica”.

 http://www.apocalypseisland.com/ web site of James Turner, explorer who officially launched what would become the Apocalypse Island Project in an effort to document his travels and the discovery of the island monument, along with the insights the monument had provided in his interpretation of the inscriptions at Palenque and the Mayan calendar.  This work continues to the present day.

In the early morning hours of February 27, 2010, a Magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Chile, causing widespread devastation on the continent and sending a tsunami racing toward the sleeping villagers of Robinson Crusoe Island.  The killer waves slammed into the island without warning.  The sea rushed 1000 feet inland through the seaside village of San Juan Bautista, destroying property and claiming the lives of more than a dozen people.  The administrative buildings, school, cemetery, and seaside homes were dragged back into the sea, destroying in a few moments what it took the islanders decades to build.

My most personal connection to the destruction was through my dear friend Pedro Niada, who, with his wife Fabiana, found themselves swimming in the water with their two young children.  They managed to climb into an abandoned drifting boat which was then thrown ashore by the waves, at which time they leapt out and ran for their lives.  It is almost unimaginable the fear and anguish that they have suffered.  Pedro woroe to me: “We have lost everything but not our dreams.”   Pedro and Fabiana had operated an island tour operation, Endemica Expediciones, from a hostel they had built themselves.  The hostel, known as El Pez Volador (The Flying Fish), was a warm respite of hospitality in this rugged environment and was completely obliterated by the tsunami.  The photos below show before-and-after shots, where the tall red pylon can be used to gauge where the hostel once stood. The Apocalypse Island team has begun taking donations to help Pedro and the other islanders rebuild their lives.  Please take a moment to view the “Apocalypse Island Tsunami Relief Fund” page of this website and to consider donating to this worthy cause.

Voces por Haiti

Atahualpa Yupanqui-Coplas del Payador Perseguido

…No sé si mi canto es lindo
o si saldrá medio triste;
nunca fui zorzal, ni existe
plumaje más ordinario.
Yo soy pájaro corsario
que no conoce alpiste.

Vuelo porque no me arrastro,
que el arrastrarse es la ruina;
anido en árbol de espina
lo mesmo que en cordilleras
sin escuchar las zonceras
del que vuela a lo gallina.

No me arrimo así nomás
a los jardines floridos.
Sin querer vivo alvertido
pa’ no pisar el palito.
Hay pájaros que solitos
se entrampan por presumidos…

PlaticandoconTarket’s opinion: Good that people could do something nice together. It is an example that joined could do lots of things. Hope the same happen not only for fun, but for humanitarian matters. By the way what happen to the prevention to the new flu inflenza H1N1 in Mexico? How about Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s warnings?. Well, it is not good to be paranoid, but not to forgett that this disease such as many others are spread by air and this matter should concern all humans. It is not a matter of a single country. Look at around, everything is global now.
